MISSION.
Rooted in the tradition of the Sisters
of Charity of Leavenworth, responding to the needs
of the time, Mount Saint Vincent Home partners with
families and children to strengthen their ability to
participate, emotionally and socially, in their community.
VALUES.
Mount Saint Vincent supports families and children without
being a substitute for families, valuing relationships
that promote: dignity, humor, individual responsibility,
justice, learning, personal safety, respect, sense of
community and spiritual growth.
UNITING
CHILDREN AND FAMILIES.
Mount Saint Vincent provides a safe, nurturing, and
predictable environment in which children can grow emotionally.
Families are an important and integral component of
each child's emotional well-being. The ultimate goal
is for children to be healthy and happy within stable,
supporting families. Understanding the child and family
in the context of their internal dynamics, coupled with
all the external factors that affect them, is a unique
strength of Mount Saint Vincent's programs. When therapy
is provided, it is individualized, integrated, and team-mediated.
Under the guidance of a highly trained, dedicated staff,
the education and therapeutic programs form the nucleus
of Mount Saint Vincent.

HISTORY.
Mount Saint Vincent was founded by the Sisters of Charity
of Leavenworth (Kansas), in 1883, who responded to a
compelling need within Denver by creating an orphanage
for needy infants and children. As other orphanages
were established, Mount Saint Vincent became a home
for boys. Today, Mount Saint Vincent provides needed
services to children and their families both on and
off-campus - expanding both programs offered and, the
numbers of children and families served.

As
needs changed again in the 1960s, Mount Saint Vincent
became a residential and day treatment facility for
children suffering from a wide range of emotional and
behavioral problems. In 2003, Mount Saint Vincent celebrates
120 years of helping children. Nearly 18,000 children
have come to Mount Saint Vincent. During all that time,
the unwavering purpose has been to keep children safe.[Return

CATHOLIC
HERITAGE.
Mount Saint Vincent Home is a private, nonprofit, charitable
organization founded and operated by the Sisters of Charity
of Leavenworth (Kansas) through a local Board of Directors.
Eight Sisters work at Mount Saint Vincent and live at the
convent on campus or at a convent a few blocks away. During
the years that Mount Saint Vincent was an orphanage, children
attended daily Masses with the Sisters in the Chapel. Today,
Catholic children receive instruction and preparation for
first communion from Seminarians who come weekly to work with
the children and from certain of the Sisters in accordance
with the parents' wishes. Mass continues to be celebrated
on weekday mornings at Mount Saint Vincent Chapel.
Pope
John Paul II visited Mount Saint Vincent Home
in 1993 during the International Year of the Child.
A Protestant
chaplain conducts weekly programs on campus and arranges for
children to attend neighborhood churches. Mount Saint Vincent
supports and encourages spiritual development according to
the parents' wishes.
Mount
Saint Vincent Home is a 501(c)3 organization separate from
the Sisters
of Charity of Leavenworth. Four Sisters (not on the staff
of Mount Saint Vincent) serve on the Board of Directors. Through
the years, the financial support of the Sisters of Charity
has enabled Mount Saint Vincent to provide quality care and
facilities for the children. Mount Saint Vincent Home receives
financial support from various Catholic parishes throughout
metropolitan Denver but no financial support from the Archdiocese
of Denver. Mount Saint Vincent is not part of Catholic Charities.
